The Right Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Jemuri Bin Serjan

The Right Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Jemuri Bin Serjan was born on 10 September 1929 in Kuching, Sarawak. He received his early education at Madrasah Melayu, a government Malay School in Kuching.

His Lordship went on to St. Joseph’s School and completed his Cambridge School Certificate in 1950, with the help of one year-local scholarship from the Education department. He was the only one of 4 Malay students to have sat for the examination in Sarawak. On leaving school, his Lordship joined the Education Department as an uncertified teacher and taught at the Madrasah Melayu until 1955, when he was transferred to the Sarawak Administrative service. There he had his first encounter with law and legal work. He later became a stipendiary Magistrate on 1 June 1965. He was appointed Assistant Attorney-General on 8 November 1966. In 1973, his Lordship was appointed State Attorney-General and he held that office until his retirement in 1984. His Lordship was re-engaged on contract basis until 31 December 1989, at which time he was appointed a Supreme Court Judge. His Lordship was appointed the Chief Justice of Borneo on 11 March 1991, an office which he held until his retirement on 9 September 1994.
